Touching soil can make you happy and Gardening is increasingly being used as a therapeutic medium in a wide range of settings including hospitals, day care centres, prisons, schools and in rehabilitation centres. In this introductory course practitioner Caitriona will teach about the following areas of interest: A brief history of therapeutic gardening - current up-to-date research into the myriad of ways in which gardening has a positive impact on health and well-being.

This course is aimed at anyone with an interest in learning about the use of horticulture as a therapeutic medium including healthcare professionals (occupational therapists, nurses and psychiatric nurses) community workers, teachers and horticulturists.

You will learn ways in which therapeutic gardening can be used effectively across a range of client groups and get introduced to examples of social and therapeutic gardening programmes from the UK and beyond.
