A reminder that our fundraising event with Neven Maguire at The Organic Centre on Sunday 15th July unfortunately is cancelled. We hope to run the event later in the year and will keep you posted. Please see our website, FB & twitter for future updates. Thank you, The Organic Centre.
Our annual fundraising event with patron Neven Maguire highlighting the importance of food education and making the connection between GROWING-COOKING-EATING.
Every garden can be run organically, from the smallest to the largest, whatever the location and everyone young and old can grow organic vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers. Growing organically produces healthy nutritious food and on our Garden Day we want to encourage everyone to garden organically and we will show how to do it successfully.
Walks, talks and displays will deal with soil fertility and composting, rotation, seed sowing, growing under cover in polytunnels, growing herbs and fruit, slug control, companion planting, pest and disease control and green manures. Staff and students of the centre will be on hand during the day to give advice. Watch out for our seed and compost games and join sessions on Yoga for Gardeners.
We all can make a difference through gardening!
Modern agriculture is stripping the Earth of high-quality topsoil, “the skin of the Earth,” and the depletion throughout history of these few inches has led to the collapse of civilizations, but all of us can take part in restoring healthy topsoil and therefore what we do in our own backyard has an impact on the larger world.
Urban farming, community gardens and orchards, school gardens, the Grow-It-Yourself and Edible City movements and everybody who grows some food, can have a powerful positive impact on our planet.
