The Organic Centre is working on a float for St Patricks day, Sunday 17th 2019, in Sligo and Leitrim. We would love if you came along and joined us!
The theme of our entry is valuing nature, building resilience in the threat of biodiversity loss and climate change, and showing solidarity to the children’s movement . We will have small children dressed as insects/bees and flowers, (handing out seed bombs for planting that were made by children on Potato Day) older children at the rear supporting the wonderful movement spearheaded by Greta Thunberg and Fridays for future with signage. In the float we will flag what can be done to build resilience to the threat of biodiversity loss and climate change including courses like we provide at the centre. So we will have our bee keepers coming on board and gardeners symbolising, up -skilling eg learning to grow, and growing the right types of things for our insects and bees (hence the wild flowers!!)
We are asking if adults are able to come, to come along as yourself or dress in gear re growing or sustainable living or if you are doing gardening or renewable projects. If eg folk wear a gardening belt/clothes or whatever depending on background.
If you would like to march as a family, that would be brilliant! We are still trying to gather some more small children in Sligo (for bees and flowers) and as mentioned teenagers would be welcome too! We can provide costumes, so if children wish to wear all black or all green we can dress them as flowers or bees! The teenagers at the rear can just turn up in own clothes holding signs in support of Greta Thunberg like ‘Theres no planet B” which we will have made.
The parade starts in Sligo at midday but people taking part need assemble before 11am on the Mail Coach Road. We can meet you there. Text ahead on 086 1657424 if you can make it so we have ideas of numbers.
Manorhamilton: We are delighted this year to be working alongside, and marching with our childrens projects at the Organic Centre as well as the wonderful Gaelscoil in Manorhamilton. The Gaelscoil children have had many craft workshops and incredible costumes and much more for our joint float.
We will be meeting at the fire station before 5pm for the Manorhamilton parade.
We would particularly value support in Sligo, As mentioned : The parade starts there at midday but people taking part need assemble before 11am on the Mail Coach Road.
It would be great if you want to come on board. It is important for us to have an idea of numbers. And if you can let us know whether you are able to do Sligo or Manorhamilton or both! . Let me know if you can make it by coming back by texting on 0861657424
Thanks once again! Dervilla : )
