Heritage Week at the Organic Centre

The Organic Centre celebrates another Heritage Week from August 16th to 24th. Check out the array of free events and book ahead to ensure your space. 

 

  • Apples in Ireland: Sunday August 17th 2025, 2pm -3.30
    Join top fruit expert and apple enthusiast Phil Wheal will give a talk on the history of apples from their origins including their place in Irish heritage and folklore. Join him also afterwards for a walk in the orchard of the Organic Centre to discuss their future.   Click here

  • From Fleece to fabric; From Fleece to Fabric- Hand spinning at the Organic Centre- Join Eimear, exploring the sustainable foundations of our woollen history this Heritage Week, and try your hand at hand spinning. Friday August 22nd, 1-3pm Click here
  • Spoon carving and miniature toy carving: Join Steffi Otto from 'Heritage Crafts Alive' for a spoon carving demonstration or try your hand at making miniature wooden dwarfs for your garden or as a companion for school. All made with organic trees that were felled during Storm Eowyn. August 19th, 11am-1pm  Click here
  • Water is life! Join ecologist Yosef for a water sampling workshop in the Ballagh River at The Organic Centre. Find out how you can play a role in protecting our most precious resource.
